This will be the first ever meeting between Wolves and QPR in the Premier League with both sides starting the season in good form.
Mick McCarthy’s men have taken seven points from their first four games and sit comfortably in the top half of the table. However they’ve failed to score in their last two games and were torn apart by Tottenham at Molineux last week. Considering their early season form it was a surprise to see them roll over so easily against Spurs and McCarthy will be demanding his players make up for that with a win against QPR. The Wolves boss has made some shrewd signings this summer with Roger Johnson bringing a stability and meanness to the back four which was missing at times last year. Jamie O’Hara has also carried on where he left off from his loan spell last season and will be keen to get amongst the goals. Kevin Doyle and Steven Fletcher have proved effective up front whilst Matt Jarvis has proved once again he has what it takes to play for England with some exciting displays on the wing. They’ll have to be wary though of the visitors who are brimming with confidence at the moment.
Tony Fernandes’ takeover, a mass of new faces and an outstanding performance on Monday night at Newcastle has turned the R’s season around. Optimism is now flowing through the veins of Loftus Road and manager Neil Warnock must feel like Christmas has come early. His side was fantastic against the Magpies with the experienced duo of Joey Barton and Shaun Wright-Phillips the pulling the strings in midfield. Wright-Phillips in particular was electric with his pace and direct running giving full back Ryan Taylor a night to forget and the former Manchester City winger will be looking to inflict more of the same on Wolves this Saturday. Barton, on the other hand, will need to curb his temper as he sure to remember the treatment he received at Molineux last year. Goal scoring still remains a worry however with numerous chances spurned against Newcastle. A solitary goal in 360 minutes of football should have set the alarm bells ringing and Warnock will need to get Jay Bothroyd and DJ Campbell firing on all cylinders.
Wolves have worries over the fitness of Fletcher and Jarvis although the latter has declared himself fit.
Armand Traore looks set to play for the visitors despite suffering from cramp against Newcastle whilst Kieron Dyer, Jamie Mackie and Rob Hulse remain sidelines.
Key Player
Jamie O’Hara: He is the main string puller in Wolves midfield and he’ll need to be at his enigmatic best on Saturday if they are to record their first win in two games. Will have a tough task up against Adel Taarabt, Barton and Shaun Derry.
Joey Barton: Warnocks new skipper was brilliant against former club Newcastle and will need to deliver the same sort of performance to ensure victory against Wolves. His last visit to Molineux was a bumpy ride to say the least.
Verdict: 2-1
