da 888:
da bet7: Celtic striker Moussa Dembele is having a fantastic season. With 20 goals to his name in the green and white hoops so far, including massive ones against Rangers and Manchester City, it’s no surprise he’s become a fans’ favourite at Celtic Park. His form and performances in high profile games meant that he was the subject of serious transfer interest in January with the likes of Chelsea reported to be interested in his services. That this significant, big money interest from the Premier League didn’t turn Dembele’s head throughout the month is a testament to his character and the guidance he is receiving from his agents. He’s staying at Celtic and seems very happy to do so.
Of course, Celtic themselves have the final say on all transfers but we’ve seen in recent high profile cases such as Dimitri Payet’s move to Marseille that ultimately the power lies with the player in terms of where they see their future.
Here are THREE reasons why Dembele has made the right call by staying at Celtic…
First-team football
Dembele is getting all the first-team football he needs to develop as a player at Celtic. Undoubtedly Brendan Rodgers’ go-to guy to lead the Celtic attack, Dembele has made the striking position his own at Celtic Park which isn’t an insignificant feat given that Leigh Griffiths scored 40 goals last season.
The likes of Chelsea have massive amounts of quality and nobody is displacing Diego Costa in attack for the Blues, especially this season. We’ve seen that the likes of Michy Batshuayi who arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer can only get a game in the cups, having not made a single Premier League start to date.
If Dembele is to realise his potential he needs these games under his belt and to continue to learn under the guidance of first-class coaches.
There’s arguably not a better place for him to be doing that right now than Celtic.
The chance to make history
Celtic are on the brink of having one of their most successful seasons ever. That’s certainly the case outside of that famous 1966/67 season that saw them lift every trophy they entered including the European Cup.
Currently unbeaten in all competitions domestically, the Hoops are well on their way to a sixth title in a row and fans have started to dream of securing a treble for only the fourth time in the club’s history.
Celtic have gone a league season unbeaten before but it was way back in 1898 and at that time the top-flight only consisted of 18 games.
To be the driving force for a landmark season would be quite remarkable, ensuring that whenever he leaves, he will always be fondly remembered by one of the most passionate groups of supporters in football.
Champions League football
Celtic have retained all of their best players in this transfer window and are likely to do so again in the summer. The club are in a strong financial position and only need to sell players on their terms or if they receive silly money offers.
That means their chances of reaching the Champions League group stages for the second season running are pretty high.
Another tilt at the competition proper could be massive for Dembele. His profile this season rose dramatically after performances against Manchester City, Barcelona and Borussia Monchengladbach and if Celtic get a kinder draw, who knows, they could qualify from the group.
Unless he moves to one of the biggest teams in Europe and regularly gets a game, which is unlikely at this stage of his career, then his best chance of testing himself against Europe’s best is with Celtic.
