Patrick Bamford appeared to have been brought down by Julian Jeanvier inside the penalty area but the referee waved away all of Leeds’ protests allowing play to continue.
Had the penalty been given and subsequently converted Leeds would have had a 1-0 lead which may have changed the outcome of the game.
The Whites have a record of winning 20 out of their 21 games when scoring first this season, with only Wigan bucking that trend on Good Friday.
Leeds fans were incensed by the decision as they were well aware of the consequences of the referee’s failure to award them a spot kick.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side went on to lose the game 2-0 which leaves them three points behind Sheffield United with two games to go in the race for promotion.
