da dobrowin: Roma manager Claudio Ranieri hopes his side can maintain their form despite a quiet January transfer window.
da betsul: Ranieri’s side remain a chance of winning the Coppa Italia and the Champions League and sit fifth in a competitive Serie A.
But they missed the chance to add to their squad in January with the club in the process of being sold, which has annoyed Ranieri slightly.
“(Roma sporting director Daniele) Prade said that Milan and Inter were in need of reinforcements, but we didn’t? I am not in agreement with him,” Ranieri said.
“They were already stronger than us and have had more money to invest, hence, they have intervened in the market. We, at this time, could not invest a penny. I hope that this market does not penalise us.”
Ranieri will quickly find out if his squad is up to scratch when they travel to the reigning champion, Inter Milan, on Sunday.
The clash at the San Siro is sure to be mouth-watering with Roma unbeaten in five and Inter having lost just one in nine since new boss Leonardo took over from Rafael Benitez.
Montenegrin striker Mirko Vucinic scored an injury-time winner in the reverse fixture at the Stadio Olimpico in September, which Roma won 1-0, and Vucinic is likely to line up as part of an attacking three alongside Marco Borriello and Francesco Totti that has terrorised defences in Italy recently.
Table-toppers AC Milan make the trip to mid-table Genoa on Sunday seeking a win that would extend their unbeaten run to ten in 2011.
Genoa have struggled recently, having won just two matches since December and Milan will be hopeful of putting the Genoa defence to the sword like city-rivals Inter and Udinese have done recently.
Napoli, sitting second, battle relegation-threatened Cesena in another Sunday match at the San Paolo Stadium.
Napoli have won six of their last seven at the venue and have been in brilliant form this season, thanks to the likes of Serie A top scorer Edinson Cavani who has netted a superb 17 goals this season.
Marek Hamsik has also chipped in with eight goals of his own and Cesena, without a win in six, will have their work cut out in restricting a firing Napoli attack.
Juventus, eighth on the table, travel to ninth-placed Cagliari on Saturday while the other two fixtures that day see free-scoring Udinese host Sampdoria while Catania travel to Bologna.
On Sunday, fourth-placed Lazio host Chievo and Lecce take on Palermo, Parma and Fiorentina do battle in a mid-table clash while the Serie A’s worst two sides, Brescia and Bari clash, with Bari hoping to snap a streak of six successive losses.
