da heads bet: With Manchester City losing to Burnley last weekend, and Arsenal recording a big win over London rivals West Ham, Arsene Wenger’s side have now closed the gap between themselves and the Champions to just a single point.
da aviator aposta: Football may prove to be very unpredictable at times, but Arsenal will not find themselves winning the Premier League this year, despite what appears to be a late assault on the title race.
Chelsea are sitting pretty in first with 64 points, whereas Arsenal are in third with 57. To think Chelsea will not take as many points as possible in the next few weeks is idiocy. With Jose Mourinho’s side being held to a 1-1 draw to an incredibly strong Southampton at the weekend, it does not mean the title is not still theirs.
In order for Arsenal to top the table, they would need to close the gap on not only City, but Chelsea, too, which is seven points. Arsenal would need a miracle, as well as for Chelsea to stop playing football altogether.
Chelsea do have to travel to the Emirates at the end of April. By then, Chelsea will have hoped to have the Premier League title all but tied up. When it comes to the fixtures between these two London clubs, more often than not, wins are in the Blues’ favour. Just last season, Chelsea’s side won their home fixture with a landslide 6-0 scoreline. Chelsea have also already beaten Arsenal this season, 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Arsenal do still have some tough grounds to travel to before the season finishes – visits to Newcastle, Burnley, Hull and Manchester United still await. With some of the results they have recorded this season – holding Manchester United to a draw and, of course, taking five points off Manchester City – they are bound to be looking for a result from another ‘Big Six’ side. Considering Arsenal were the team to knock Manchester United out of the FA Cup, at Old Trafford of all places, no doubt Louis Van Gaal’s men will be looking for a win over Arsenal in the league as sweet revenge.
As far as their home fixtures go, they are yet to host Sunderland, Swansea, West Bromwich Albion and Liverpool, aside from Chelsea. Arsene Wenger believes consistent home form is key to their successes for the remainder of the season – and they can take points off the majority of the sides still to visit the Emirates.
Although they will not be able to get their hands on the Premier League this season, Arsenal’s campaign can still be regarded as relatively successful. They may be out of the Champions League already, but they’ve still got a huge opportunity to secure a second consecutive FA Cup victory.
If City continue to struggle for the rest of the season, and Arsenal capitalise on this, they could find themselves in a very respectable second place – but definitely not the top spot for this year.
