da betsson: Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has claimed that Cardiff City’s late and dramatic equaliser on Friday night should have been disallowed for offside.
The verdict was relayed by Jacqui Oatley on Twitter after the ex-official appeared on Sky Sports’ Ref Watch.
What’s he said?
Sheffield Wednesday boss Garry Monk was left reeling following his side’s 1-1 draw in the Welsh capital, and it appears his anger was fully justified if Gallagher’s comments are anything to go by.
The Owls took a first-half lead through Julian Borner as he slammed home a volley that his teammate Steven Fletcher would have been proud of, but the visitors would be denied a fourth win in six matches under the 40-year-old as Lee Tomlin curled in a free-kick three minutes from time.

Cardiff centre-back Aden Flint proved to be a nuisance by blocking goalkeeper Cameron Dawson’s vision as his teammate struck the set-piece, but any protests were to no avail, meaning Monk’s side missed the chance to cement their name amongst playoff contention.
Gallagher, who officiated in the top-flight for 15 years, reviewed the incident on Sky Sports’ ‘Ref Watch’ on Monday evening and said that the goal shouldn’t have stood.
Fuming
Those five words, ‘should have been ruled out,’ will rattle their chief in command alike as the extra two points would have seen them sit fourth in the league, some four places higher than they currently are going into Tuesday night’s game with Stoke City.
It would have also meant that they were just three points behind league leaders West Brom, who they face next month, which would have been a serious statement on their promotion hopes under Monk.
You also have to wonder what sort of effect it has had on the young shot-stopper Dawson as he was only drafted into the starting lineup ten minutes before kickoff, and he had been on track for a clean sheet barring this moment of controversy.
Wednesday mustn’t dwell on this incident ahead of tonight’s match with Stoke City but come May, if they are a couple of points short of where they need to be, they will almost certainly look back on this incident as a key factor.
