da betsul: The Athletic’s Sam Lee spotted Ederson leaving the San Siro on Wednesday and has given an update on the Manchester City keeper.
What’s the story?
Ederson left the pitch during the game against Atalanta and was replaced by Claudio Bravo. However, the Chile international was dismissed towards the end of the game and Kyle Walker of all people had to go in goal.
The injury to Ederson will understandably cause concern for Pep Guardiola, with the vital clash against Liverpool up next. The Spaniard will need all hands on deck for this fixture, as a win would put the Reds nine points clear in the table.
Lee tweeted: “Bit of a limp on Ederson as he walked out of the ground. He put his thumb up when asked how he is but the limp probably said more about the situation.”
Can’t afford another injury
As mentioned, the Anfield trip has quickly become a must-win game for City, with the hosts knowing a victory will open up a healthy nine-point gap at the top of the table.
Plus, then there is the already long injury list for Guardiola to deal with.
Right now, the champions are looking like heading to Merseyside without as many as six names, three of which are defensive players in Oleksandr Zinchenko, Aymeric Laporte and Rodri.
As a result of this torrid luck, City’s backline has already looked shaky at times. Losses to Norwich City and Wolverhampton Wanderers over the past few weeks have shown plenty of issues in the club’s defence.
City simply can’t face another injury, especially at the back.
The manner in which Ederson plays out of defence is so vital to the way the club play, and his absence could be a game-changer on Sunday.
City fans will be praying he can recover from his injury in time.
